15 Aug Lynyrd Skynyrd “FreeBird” (Close Up Solo)
Note: this was the video that made over 1 million 300.000 views on youtube. UPDATE! Found the original, unmolested stereo file.To tell you the truth – and no, I’m not being humble – I don’t know why it did get that many views. I never liked it too much. Didn’t like my tone here, wasn’t particularly accurate nor groovy. Mysteries of the interwebz! 😛

Posted at 07:17h, 18 April2 possible solutions:
1) Look in your browsers cache folder for the file after viewing
2) if you’re using firefox, get one of the “movie downloader plugins” available on their plugin site

Posted at 16:03h, 17 SeptemberSorry me again,
I was wondering if I could ask you a question about the picking. There is this riff u play at 2:35, think is something like this:
—15——————
——–18p15——–
——————17—
————————
————————
————————
How do you pick the strings, your just so damn fast I cant see it 😛
I just keep struggeling with this part.. I pick the e-string down, 2nd string up, 3rd string down and than the second time 1st string up, 2nd string down, 3rd string up, so just the other way around.. Is this wrong??
Do you just pick it in one pattern?

Posted at 19:58h, 02 MarchI’m not sure how SoloDallas plays that bit of the solo – as you say it’s too fast to see – but this is how I play it and it seems to work: down pick the E string then up pick the B string, pulling off to the 15th fret, and continue the up pick rake onto the G string – this positions you to start the next series with a down pick on the E string again. You can pick up quite good speed doing it this way but not sure if it’s “authentic”.

Posted at 15:43h, 17 SeptemberYeaa I also gave this one thousands of views on youtube! I somehow couldnt find it anymore so I started looking and found it 😀
I like this version much better than the other one, you kinda created your own style and tone, just amazing!

Posted at 21:42h, 03 SeptemberProbably a lot of people like me watched this over and over to try to learn it. I think I gave this at least a hundred views during the time I was learning this solo because it was the best close up version that I could find!

Posted at 03:12h, 20 AugustEmailed you. It’s MUCH easier than you think or it seems by looking. The most important thing is listening. The more I learn, the more I see the importance of this.

Posted at 08:43h, 18 AugustWhoa, it was great! What a pity that I can’t play these solos and improvisations.

Posted at 05:42h, 17 AugustI doesn’t always has to sound exact like the original to be good. there’s nothing wrong with a slightly different tone and some impro.. I really love this version of freebird. you well deserved more than a million views!

Posted at 11:10h, 15 AugustThat was great, I liked the improvisation ending as well. Will you be doing a tutorial of this?

Posted at 06:27h, 15 AugustWell, I do understand why it made more than 1 million views, because it’s amazing Fil, you might get it better if you say so, but this solo is simply amazing and you, as always nail it.
