Way to go Jay, great to see another French dweller bashing away on the Gibsons. Checked out your site, good stuff. This one made me get out my old zz top tapes (still have loads of them) and inspired me to get Just got paid under the belt… Thanks
Just one thing gets me, how in hell can you play and be so “nanchalant” , freaks me out, all these great heavy sounds coming out and you look as if you’re looking out the window wondering if it might get colder in the afternoon and maybe you’ll put on a jumper. How do you do it ?
Wow Ant, good insight. Never thought of that. Probably ‘cos I ‘m too busy worrying about getting the notes on time let alone the sound
One day, one day…..
I think in the beginning you need the worrying part of the brain to be there all the time to get the mechanics right, but over time as you master the mechanics, you need to turn around and learn how to turn the worrying part of the brain off π
True, also its easy to get “lost” in learning to play and somthime you find yourself thinking you were worse than before! So many factors to remeber mentaly π but in the end feeling comes through you find your style and you can put your own stamp on the song π
Thank you Ant and rjofig :), I’ll try to do an other zz top, why not sharp dressed man this is a very good song, or maybe some Tush.. And yes this was done with GR4.
I’m trying to transcribe this song – your cover was a motivation and I could learn a thing or two from it π Question, did you use any default GR4 settings, or one of your own? I’m having a bit of a tough time getting the right tone for this one.
I don’t use any default GR4 settings, I try to work with my ears, I touch and test everything I can until I find something interesting. I also used some plug-ins with Cubase like compressors and equalizers.
Don’t hesitate to ask if you have others questions, I’ll try to help if I can (and please excuse my poor english..) π
Thanks; yeah, I’ll keep tinkering, for me, it’s been hard to get the pinch harmonics to work as in this song, but not too distorted. I’ve been trying with both the JMP and HotPlex, did you use these or something else for the amp model?
Man, your playing kicks ass, and your English is not poor at all π
Renato
For this one I used the Ultrasonic and 2 compressors to have the biggest sound possible without to much distortion.
For the pinch harmonics look at this at 5:21 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHtPYZRVeGI&feature=related
That’s pretty cool and maybe it will help you a little.
Good luck for your cover π
