Thanks! ๐ I’m not able to record a video of myself playing yet so I just made a photo montage instead. I put the Hulk during the first chorus ’cause he looked so intense like he was singin’ or something… lol I put the South Park version of myself, the Butcher, Leatherface and Slap Chop guy pics where I was “Butchering and Slaughtering” the solo! lol
I suppose I put silly pics because I don’t really take myself too seriously too.
Once I get my new laptop that actually doesn’t have a hamster running on a wheel for a processor I’ll do a real video.
Still gotta work on that tone too, it’s getting there but not quite.
I should have the new amp in 4 – 6 weeks. It’s basically a clone of a Marshall 18 watt amp only there are 2 channels. One just has a Volume and Tone knob and the other has Treble, Mid Bass, Gain and a Master Volume. One side is basically an 18 watt Plexi and I can also blend the channels by jumping the inputs. I almost bought one of these used from a guy but when I tested it there were some strange noises happening in the background that didn’t belong. Up front the tone was all there though and you’d be surprised how good it sounds on the channel that has just the Volume and Tone knob when it is cranked full blast! When I get it I’ll definitely post a video to show it off. LOL The amp will be hand made with point to point wiring and some top grade hardware in Toronto by Trinity amps. The owner was telling me that Billy Gibbons plays a 2×12 combo version of what I’m getting! They’re pretty cool over there! I told him what type of music I liked and named a few bands and he is sort of tailoring the amp for me! ๐
For mic position I have tried with it stuck right to the grill cloth and a foot or 2 away but I’m gonna try 5 – 10 cm with the angle you suggested and see how it sounds. Also gonna save my pennies for that condenser mic I think… lol and it’s all YOUR fault! ๐
Nice idea for the miking, will try that too.
Now I’m curious how the 18-watter will sound.
Yes, do some more experiments, I also do that. Mic placement and all that recording stuff is really a fascinating topic.
Did you also try a closer mic position, maybe 5-10 cm with the mic at an angle of around 30 degrees?
Got also good results with this position.
