Renato @ Florida; I bought and started learning to play guitar about two years ago, a bit late in life (I am 39). Still a beginner, but motivated and inspired by Fil and other 'bedroom rockers'.
I've been posting a few videos here and sound bites on soundcloud, as sort of a logbook with snippets of how my playing (hopefully) evolves, and it may help inspire others who love music to take an instrument, practice, play, and have fun.
To contact me by email, my gmail.com username is the same as my username here.

Posted at 14:28h, 20 JanuaryThanks, Corey, I appreciate the encouragement!
I’m about 90 minutes from Jax – thanks for the heads-up, I have to check if the date works out, I have some travel coming up and family visiting. Just checking, when you say all ages, would kids 7-9 be ok? Cheers!

Posted at 03:41h, 19 JanuaryThanks Ant! Appreciate it!
Yeah I noticed the slight flat E too – seems I’m still having trouble with keeping it consistently tuned.
Cheers!

Posted at 09:42h, 19 Januarywatch this vid from about 2:45 its got two good tips which may help to let your srings “settle” and stay in tune
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrLKlJS1wEo
also now that you have put 9s on have you adjusted the brige?
rjofig
Posted at 14:23h, 19 JanuaryThanks! I’ll check the video out.
I have not adjusted the bridge, but I did adjust the truss rod a bit to compensate for the different tension (it had a slight fret buzz right after the change, went away with a couple of 1/8th turns). As far as I can tell, the 12th fret is in tune an octave down when the open string is tuned, I’m not sure I need to mess with the bridge.
The G string is back to getting kind of stuck in the nut at times, graphite helped for a while but I think I ought to get the oil that 06AngusSG recommended. For the low E string, it might be that gave too much string and I have more turns than I should when I changed them. The other strings seem to have no problems. I guess it will take a few trials to get things right. Cheers!

Posted at 16:48h, 18 JanuaryHehe, maybe your Boss needs them for blasting AC/DC? π
Oh well, getting slowly further with playing, managed to play the full shookme solo yesterday, now working on timing and several other issues like “plick plick” sounds because of unprecise fingering and that π And all the work rolls on again, almost like a tsunami. Fun time almost over π
rjofig
Posted at 16:30h, 18 JanuaryYeah, don’t want to be the reason for the boss to be on your case π Cheers!

Posted at 13:41h, 18 JanuaryVery nice Renato, you’re getting better and better. And it also seems that playing on the Gibson is easier for you.
As I’m also looking for a nice but not too expensive cam, which one did you use there?
rjofig
Posted at 14:15h, 18 JanuaryThanks Franz!
Yeah, I do think the Gibson is easier to play; I’ve changed the strings to 09s, I prefer that as well.
The camera is the flip-video model – was a present from grandpa to the kids and I’ve been borrowing it π
Cheers!

Posted at 14:29h, 18 JanuaryYes, you really look more relaxed in the vid π
Hm, found several “Flip Camcorders” on Amazon, did you use such one?
rjofig
Posted at 14:42h, 18 JanuaryYeah, this is the model:
http://www.amazon.com/Flip-UltraHD-Video-Camera-Generation/dp/B0040702HA
(It’s very light and straightforward to use, no cables needed, just a USB port, so it’s nice as a portable camcorder when you are on the go – that’s why grandpa gave to the kids)
Cheers!

Posted at 14:54h, 18 JanuaryThank you, looks good. And first researches tell me that it works also with Linux. Great! Thank you, will get one too π
Cheers!
rjofig
Posted at 15:19h, 18 JanuaryDidn’t try it with Linux, but yeah, should work without problems, it mounts as a regular USB drive on a Mac (I use iMovie for editing).
BTW you’ll need a small tripod for it as well. Cheers!

Posted at 04:31h, 16 JanuaryThis time I also worked out the solo. Getting the hang of the camera and lighting as well. Cheers!
