27 Apr The Schaffer Replica™ Pedal!
Dear Friends,
it’s been a while (many things happening/happened),
but here we are again, and for good news, too: I’m proud (literally) to be able to announce that the definitive prototype of our Schaffer Replica™ is ready!
This is our official way of opening the pre-order list, too: as it was for the Gold Tag edition, we will be taking orders at replica-preorder@solodallas.com
I used a different amplifier this time – but I’ll demo this prototype with the usual amps too shortly – just to demonstrate that the capabilities of the boost on our TSR are really, really worth of your attention.
I set both the pre-amp and the volume levels at 2 on this combo amp – that is basically, a pretty clean sound. Well , listen to what the TSR does to such a clean sound!
Recorded with one U67 clone (“Peluso 67”).
Yours – always,
Fil 🙂

Posted at 05:33h, 13 JuneHello! I am interested in buying a pedal, but am afraid to pre-order until I can see the price. Will there be a regular sale option once the pedal is in production, or will it be pre-order only? Sorry if I missed the information elesewhere. Thank you!
SoloDallas
Posted at 08:49h, 13 JuneHi, don’t worry.
The pedal price is known – USD 280 – and it is fixed for now.
However, this won’t be a time-limited sale (for the pedal): we intend to produce it for as long as we can.
You can preorder when ever you feel like it writing us at replica-preorder@gmail.com
thanks!

Posted at 08:50h, 13 JuneHi bro,
the pedal comes after the GT version. GT version is “almost” in production, which would mean that seen enough it will be shipped. There’s some waiting still 🙂

Posted at 04:08h, 01 JuneJust sent in my pre-order email no more than 5 minutes ago. Hope it’s not too late or anything like that. This is probably a pain for you, but if I can get a confirmation that it was received that’d be great 🙂

Posted at 13:37h, 14 Mayquick playing/guitar setup question Fil, what do you tune your bass EAD stings too? i know you have it slightly detuned to get that waaaahhh sound when you hit the strings, but how much cents by?
I gues this might just be somthing i have to fine tune to my playing style
SoloDallas
Posted at 14:29h, 14 MayAnt, have no idea how many cents (Ang would tell you the same). “We” go by ear, and so must you, brother. Sometimes it works, other times it won’t (and we’ll have to adjust). Afraid of experimenting be not 🙂
Ant
Posted at 14:58h, 14 Mayi though this might be the case 🙂 thank
i found that hitting the stings hard ish would make the bass srtings go off sharp for a moments time then settle back to the correct tuning giving it the baaoowwwww sort of sound
also noticed that if i hit the strings further away from the bridge this effect increases
i will experiment further 🙂

Posted at 15:07h, 14 MayHey Ant, maybe when you get the baaoowwww or the waaaaahhh and happen to record it, can you post? I’m curious now and can’t “picture” these sounds 🙂

Posted at 15:20h, 14 Maylol will do when i get home 🙂

Jaja, ich existiere noch. Bin nur verdammt schreibfaul. Aber heute ist Feiertag, der iPad-Akku ist leer, und jetzt hab ich mal Lust. Also mal überlegen, was seit Februar so passiert ist. Das Wichtigste zuerst: es gibt endlich die Pedal-Version der SVDS…

Posted at 10:33h, 07 MayHi Fil. I sent an email for pre-order on the 29th April. I just wanted to check it has been received as I haven’t had a reply to it?
Thanks,
Rich

Posted at 11:10h, 06 MayHi
Fantastic sounding pedal. I must have one – 😉
Just preodered a pedal, hope it isn’t too late
Fil
Posted at 11:22h, 06 MayThanks! It’s never going to bee too late for pedals, as we are not going to cease their production unless they stop selling which thing, between us, not only I do not anticipate, but I don’t see happening: for us it’s the contrary. We plan on flooding the market of boutique music gear with these, in time. We don’t see another guitar accessory with similar history etc. 🙂
Thanks!

Posted at 14:24h, 06 MayFil did you receive my preorder email?

Posted at 14:38h, 06 MayYes, we receive all of them. It just takes some time to reply.

Posted at 02:55h, 07 MayIts okay. It’s just that I sent it from my phone so I wasn’t sure it went through.

Posted at 03:15h, 04 MayI’m curious. If the pedal comes with a power supply, will it be the European 220v or North American 120v? (at least I think thats what the difference is). Will we have to buy a conditioner/converter to use it state-side?

Posted at 04:03h, 04 MayJake (the great),
it’s 110 to 240 (auto) 😀

Posted at 13:33h, 03 MayWhat headphones you use fil?
SoloDallas
Posted at 13:48h, 03 MayI love ’em Anthony, you gotta get ’em. Forget the freaking brand right now, but it’s well known. Not only they sound the best I ever had – even better than the studio headphones I used to have at studio58a – but they LOCK on me head when I play ‘n’ dance, and won’t move 😆
Ant
Posted at 13:56h, 03 Mayi can see they are realy stuck to your nogin, i currenlty use Skull Candy Hesh 2.0 great cones on them but a bit on the slipy side on my head :/
where can i find these? 😀

When I was buying headphones I wanted to ask Fil the same thing and I couldn’t find his e-mail address anywhere (still haven’t) so I did some research and I think he wears those or other similiar Sennheisers. Anyway, I haven’t bought them, so I’m not sure how they perform :).

Posted at 18:53h, 02 MayThank you for the answers. I appreciate it. I hope you don’t think I was attacking you or the TSR. I will move forward with pre-ordering. It’s that sound your TSR makes I can’t get out of my head. I have listend to others via youtube and in person. Other pedals work great but they don’t have that sound. My little valve bimbo will be on fire with the TSR. It sound killer with out pedals.
I also wanted to thank you. Cause of SoloDallas.com. I had Manilus T-top clones installed in my SG a while back. Plus bumble Bee caps, 50 wiring. If only the neck was a just a little thinner. I am working on having a luthier shave it down a hair. It’s the only guitar I want or need…………………..next to a gretsch jet firebird. Some day.
Thanks again
SoloDallas
Posted at 18:58h, 02 MayNO! I don’t think at all you were attacking us – for which thing naturally I do thank you in return.
However, we are prepared for attacks, we will be attacked (and we will fire back too 😆 ).
It’s just the way it is: when someone puts their “hard earned” money down into something, they do demand answers, honesty, integrity and the like. We do understand all of this, because this is how we are as well.
Thanks go out to you a-gain – looking forward to having you here with us
Best Fil & Franz

Posted at 18:17h, 02 MayNot to be a $@%^^&!. I just have to ask. How does or will the SVDS pedal compare to the other boost/compressor pedals out there? There is the strymon ob1, DVK Mrs compressor.
I am new so please take it easy. I just wanted to ask before I spend $280 plus VAT plus shipping. As someone who only plays AC/DC songs in his basement, there is no question. I want one for sure. I just feel it’s important to ask as many questions as possible. I believe the goal was to nail the SVDS sound in pedal form. Which you did. However I don’t use pedals and was wondering what makes the SVDS different.

Posted at 18:41h, 02 MayHi Pete, no worries: we DO understand! How could we hope to endure in a competitive market if we didn’t conceive the existence of good products out there? There ARE and there will continue to be other products. As long as any question is always asked in mutual respect, we will always welcome anyone and any question – right away.
So let’s come to your questions (and by the way, welcome here!)
Now, the first thing I will tell you and anyone else (including myself) about our Replica and the other products is this: there may well be “superior” boosters and compressors in terms of sound quality, possibilities/features, variations obtainable of tone and sounds from a single unit and so on.
Our Replica does not want to be a compressor AND a boost like a completely new product (with all the contemporary options and what not): our Replica is in fact, a Replica of an existing tool used for several years 30 years ago. It contains in itself some of the “limitations” it had back then (such as, the impossibility to change the type of compression other than, varying its intensity). It is very basic.
However Peter, it is what was used extensively on record AND live by several rock stars back in the day, and those sounds still live healthily today in our ears.
This we’ll have always to keep in mind, because this is the intention of this product. It probably won’t be able to compare in features with several other contemporary and advanced products out there, however the question that we should ask ourselves is this: are these new compressors, boosts and overdrives being used in as many rock album as (for example) the SVDS was? Hehehehe. I don’t think so (for a number of reasons, clearly). So for the guitar player who’s willing to re-create some of those sounds, I think this is a very good chance to do so.
You know, have you ever met those kind of guys who play and say… “I’ve got this sound down 100%, I just sound the same with this & this”. And then you listen to them, and you’re like “well…” and you roll your eyes. Happened to me many, many times. What this TSR is, is a “tool” that adds to the possibility of really sounding like the authentic thing, by adding the same character that was really used there back then.
So… will the TSR do a triple jump and then dive and reach 100 meters deep in only 2.5 secs? Answer is probably no.
But was the TSR character embedded in guitar players sound of the caliber of Angus Young, David Gilmour and – say – Frank Marino? Yes, it was.
This should answer some of your questions 🙂

Posted at 22:21h, 01 MayHi Fil and Franz
Would I be able to get the benefit offered by the TSR pedal at lower house friendly volumes? I mostly use my Marshall VM2266 at low volumes as I have young children asleep by the time I get to play guitar on an evening and really want one of these pedals but as I mostly play at low volumes and can’t really crank the volume is it worth it for me to get one?
Thanks 🙂
SoloDallas
Posted at 22:38h, 01 MayDevastatingly YES. You would be able. The TSR won’t care how loud you are. It will simply do its thing, no matter how loud you are. My last video out was with the amp at 2!

Posted at 22:50h, 01 MayThanks Fil I will work on convincing my wife that I need one now 🙂
Cheers
SoloDallas
Posted at 23:00h, 01 MayHahaha mate, made me smile, thanks 🙂
Because I’m not an expert (on convincing the wife) but boy have I been working on it for these 6 years 😆
saxosim
Posted at 23:37h, 01 MayThanks Fil I think convincing the wife is trickier than playing the guitar and similarly an art that takes years to master 🙂
