Hey Fil! Great that our community is groing!
I know, you probably get a lot of suggestions, but i’ve got another one:
Could you make a video about what you do when you play solos and improvise?
Ha, ha…just a couple of days away from computer and Bam! you guys talking ’bout a meeting π It would be nice but I don’t know how many of us could participate due to our location and spare time. Damn, you seem so close here on SD.net. Anyway great idea!
Hey Fil, this chair will be also available on sd.net store? “SD.net, Classic Rock website offer you a Classic Solid Furniture” π
Hello Guys, some News about the file space:
I changed from the little document manager software to a filemanager software.
Advantages:
User interface even more easy to use
Detailed File upload progress information
Correct handling of large files
Disadvantages:
No direct links to the files
No file descriptions possible
Just tried it, dose not seem to load form me π im running on IE 8 just loads with a Blue box in the center of the page, i will try it with mozilla fire fox browser and let you know π
Ok, not so good. I tested it only with Firefox and Safari on Mac. I’ll do some more tests with IE.
Thanks for trying it out anyway. And dont hesitate to spam it with uploaded files, they will get deleted if this goes life.
Franz, worked for me (Chrome 7.0, Linux).
I think the interface is easier to the previous one you had setup.
I think if it’s just for GR4 presets, the previous document manager might be a better choice because of the direct links and descriptions; but if the goal is to support sharing of more files, especially media, this one is a better fit.
I think in the instructions on how to use this, it’ll need to explain that providing a descriptive file name will be important.
Thanks for setting these up!
Thanks for your feedback, Renato. Ah, very fine that it works too with Chrome.
Yes, that’s the conflict here. A mix of both would be perfect. For sharing some small files the document manager would be the better solution, on the other side, if someone needs bigger space for transfering video files for collaborations and such things the document manager doesnt work. It cant handle bigger files (100M) correctly neither for upload or download.
I’ll contact the programmer for a solution of the upload problem, let’s see if he’s able to fix it. If not, I think it’s better to use the 2nd software, the file manager. What do you think?
Ha, you are using Linux too? I work mainly on Linux. Do you also work in IT business?
I agree with you, the second software is a good approach, and we can always revisit later if it doesn’t work out.
Well, I’m at a university; I’ve been using Linux since the mid 90s or so (now mostly research and development in distributed systems). It has evolved a lot since then π
Alright, I’ll contact the programmer. Maybe we’ll get a fast fix.
Ah, ok, thats a bit longer than me, I started around 2000 with Linux. Yes, it has evolved a lot, I remember myself taking hours for installing a graphics driver back then so I can use a GUI at all π
Just a thought, don’t everyone get carried away, now that there are so many of us the idea of an annual or every other year get together has come to mind. Maybe a weekend in a european city somewhere, or perhaps use a festival to meet up. I know everyone would want to come but think seriously about it and whether you could afford to travel, take the time out etc and perhaps we’ll get something together. A few of us on YT have been doing this at Hyde Park in London (arranged by Tim Kentishbloke) and it’s been a good day out.
There are quite a few here who regularly converse with each other and I think it would be nice to put a face to a name. π
That’s a neat idea, Rob. Somewhere in Europe seems the best, I have a hunch that’s where the majority of the members are. For me it’d be unlikely to be able to go unless it happens to coincide with work travel, but it’d be nice to hear stories and see pictures of the get together. Cheers
Thanks Rena, I just thought I’d see how much interest there is then maybe we’d all have a serious debate about it perhaps for this summer or next. Make a list of where people are from e.t.c. I think europe because I’m told the U.S.A is difficult to enter since 9/11 (probably rightly so). I wasn’t thinking about anything big where we all take our gear and try and break the simultaneous Back In Black jam world record (though already I’m thinking, lol) but perhaps just a social get together. I for one would have to include my better half or she’d put my gear on the street.
I thought you might say that Franz!
Why not, Rome was a joke really, it’s somewhere everyone should go at least once, but any of the world’s beautiful cities wil make it easier for me to get a willing travelling companion (if you know what I mean)!
Let’s see how many are interested and able, and go from there. If there’s a bit of interest on this page I’ll make a short article for people to list their user names and where they live. It’s the perfect excuse for a weekend somehere isn’t it! π
oh and if there’s enough Egyptians here my missus would like to see the Pyramids, lol
Well, I’ll say this: although I do not have a preference for Rome (i.e., here) IF we decide to do it here in Rome, I will book a studio and bring ALL my guitars and amps in it for us. This – I guess and hope – would make it more fun for the day π
I am from England, im half blood english and italian (dad english, mum italian) i have been to italy several time as we have relatives there up by lake garda π
What a fantastic achievement! I’m VERY proud to be a part of this amazing community! And Fil, Thank you for bringing us this “platform” for all of us to share, show, inform, perform, help and learn. I am happy this place is doing so well!
This is amazing Fil π this place is really firing on all cylinders now π Even the turbo kicked in
I went to see Live Wire AC/DC tibute band tonight down the raod from where i live, I gotta say the were awsome, I have actually gone partially deaf in my right ear amazingly loud, the guy who was angus got on fake bons shoulders and went around th crowd, I reached out and shook his hand hehe. They played a mix of great ac/dc songs (there all great i know) but all my favorties were played. To top it off i won the raffel loads a merchandice hehe. They were really good, some of the riffs were played right however, like the chords were right but they strumming patterns were not and some solos werent entirley acurate but non the less very good. They used JCM 800s though which isnt true to AC/DC sound as we all know but still sounded good, would have been better on a 1959 of course, with the JCM 800 it sounded a little to much like heavey rock, rather than AC/DC’s signiture rock n roll tone, but if anyone gets the chance to see them I think they only tour europe, do go see them, no one will ever be the real AC/DC but they are very good π
Jake
I’ve seen them too Jake a couple of times and will see them every time they come around. They are very good indeed with both Bon and Brian singers and real cannons too! There are several videos on YT but to be honest the singers don’t sound like they do for real so I won’t add any links. I thought the first time I went that they would be rubbish but I was really surprised, if anyone gets a chance check ’em out, they go all over europe. Incidently when I’ve seen them Lorne who plays Angus was using a JCM 900?
Congratulations Fil! I remember watching your early videos on youtube and they’ve gotten even better since. Your guitaring has always been a big influence on me. Keep up the good work!
I remember way back when you were planning a DVD release, before you decided to start a site or anything, never In my wildest dreams thought you’d get this far and have done such a great job.

I’ ve got little idea. We could comment AC/DC ( and not only!) videos on youtube, where we could invite people to sd.net. What do you think, in my opinion it’s not problem!
Sounds like a good idea. But do not spam them π This would invalidate our cause of “good, responsible, non aggressive and rocking solodallas.net members” π
Hehe,
I think I can do that, but not too much, I would maybe 3,4 comments on most viewed videos .
