    Kids seem to learn many of things easier than adults, and I think a lot of people just accept this as natural without thinking about it. But if you start thinking about the lives of kids, you realize that they usually have a lot more free time than adults, and are typically pretty assertive about going after what they want. And they get bored (if they aren’t zombified by a TV).

    So, what does this add up to: Kids have time to practice. If they have an interest, simply because of the free time they have, they’ll probably pick up an instrument several times a day. If they get bored, they may pick it up again, especially once the habit sets in. And if they have friends with similar interests, they’ll spend hours with their friends experimenting, etc.

    I’m of the belief that if an adult spends that much time and energy, they will learn at least as fast. Probably faster and better due to being more capable of self-reflection. The difficulty is not some psychological phenomina related to brain age. It’s the fact that you have to get the car fixed, get to work, cook dinner. Do the laundry, whatever.

    At least I hope so. I’ll report back in a couple of years. 🙂

      Nice find, FIl, got to check out this book!
      I can relate to what he says about you learn at a different pace and with other distractions/mindset, but you get there.
