Hi,
my name is Henning and i`m living in Germany.
My age now is 44 and i`m an ACDC fan since 1979, since i heard that crushing riffs of Highway To Hell. Since four years i play electric guitar and i bought myself a Gibson SG a couple of weeks ago. So i have to learn a lot of playing ACDC and to get that sound.
To get this right ACDCsound is my biggest problem now, because i can`t use a 50W or 100W amp, they all are too loud for my home.
The Marshallamps are often sound different, because of different parts, even different tubes and so on. But one day i will get it (-:
Great that you start this site Phil !!! I`m very happy about that !!

Posted at 01:51h, 06 JanuaryI have this blackstar ht-5, and i agree it’s loud, this isn’t really a pratice amp. It’s in between. I recorded two songs with it, the quality on youtube sucks(it sounds 10 times better on the original recording…), and it wasn’t my guitar.^^ Anyway you can ear that here.

Posted at 01:32h, 06 JanuaryLast advice: never buy a line 6 pod…
banane
Posted at 10:44h, 06 JanuaryWhy not? The tone in this video was created with a Line 6 pod, as ar as I know.

Posted at 23:22h, 04 JanuaryChabum 1970, you should try the blackstar ht-5, i personnaly like it. It has a lot of gain, but you can have a really good angus’s tone, just don’t put the gain over 4^^.

Posted at 23:57h, 04 JanuarySeems to be a good advice. Read some tests (didn’t know Blackstar) and they said it has a nice creamy sound great for classic rock and blues.

Posted at 09:19h, 05 JanuaryIt’s a 5W amp tube? Normally I play with a Laney 35W, I know that amps tube are more powerful than transistors amps but, 5Watts are enough for me? I normally play at home, in a canteen (basement) of 50mq.
I’ve also had a look to a class 5 Marshall… very nice but I need to try it.
banane
Posted at 11:35h, 05 JanuaryWell, 5 Watts seems to be a little, yes. On the other side, I have a 50 Watt tube amp here, running it most times on a volume at 5 or 6 to drive the tubes a bit and thourh an attenuator then, turning the volume down to a level of a loud tv. I doubt that more than 10 watts coming to the speakers here, if ever.
Maybe you should collect some more money and go for a Blackstar HT 5 head together with a nice 4×12″ cabinet.
That would be enough for home use now and the cabinet could be used with a different amp in the future then.

Posted at 11:51h, 05 JanuaryI agree to what Franz says here. A 4×12 will completely blow you in terms of quality tone you get from it. People are rarely aware of the importance of a 4×12, but these are what really make a large part of the tone we are after. Inside a big cabinet such as a 4×12, many things happen tone wise. I’d like to suggest that 5 watts are LOUD! I don’t think I get to 5 watts when I am attenuated, even with the 1959. I think I may at the most come out with 3 watts. 5 watts still need an attenuator!
banane
Posted at 12:14h, 05 JanuaryYeah, it’s really a big difference.
With a 4×12 cabinet, there’s more than half a square meter of speaker surface emitting sound, that alone is a big difference in tone, and also in loudness. Plus the physical things that happen in the box itself. My eyes almost fell out when I tried a 4×12 for the first time, hehe ๐ Ah, and I would go for a non-slanted (straight) cabinet.

Posted at 13:22h, 05 JanuaryHow much sould I spend for all these gear?
banane
Posted at 14:11h, 05 JanuaryI would go for the Blackstar HT-5 head (370 euros) and a Harley Benton G412S Vintage cabinet (4×12, 345 euros) with Celestion vintage 30s in it. An original Marshall 1960 BX cabinet would be even better but costs 600 euros alone.
If this is really really really too much I would sadly take the Harley Benton G412S with some no name speakers with unknown tone for 199 Euros. (Prices researched at online dealer thomann.de, delievers to a lot of european countries. Harley Benton is a brand own by them. I’m not related to them in any way, I just like them.)
Very important: A lot of people here are on the search for the right tone and a lot of them spent already too much money on equipment that’s fine at all but doesn’t have the tone they wanted. So, take your time in researching, testing, reading test reviews, listening to test videos on youtube. Collect money in the meantime while you get yourself informed.
I did this for about 3 months before I decided what to buy.
It’s sort of like finding the woman of your life, you know ๐

Posted at 11:49h, 13 JanuaryThanx a lot, it’s hard to reach that amount of money. I will wait, in the meantime I play as much as I can.

Posted at 14:18h, 04 JanuaryEhi, can anyone tell me what kind of amp could I buy to get a tone close to Angus? Ah, I’ve got a SG Standard and a Laney 35LX and my budget is about 300/400 Euros. Or is better to buy a Line 6 POD and try with my Laney? Or I am wasting time and money? I would get the tone of the live If you want blood..
TORVICK
Posted at 22:55h, 03 JanuaryAngusrocks, i know your tone is close to the original, i think it’s very cool! I just say that it would be nice to hear only your amp, if i will tell you if there is no difference…
TORVICK
Posted at 22:58h, 03 Januaryedit: “then i will tell you if there is no difference”
Angusrocks
Posted at 23:08h, 03 Januaryah, ok, i will see what i can do (-;
Maybe a soundexample from my amp only…..
TORVICK
Posted at 00:48h, 03 JanuaryNo offense but i can’t say if the sound is good or not because i don’t really hear you:/ You could play with a backing without guitars.
Angusrocks
Posted at 12:16h, 03 JanuaryHi Torvick,
what you hear is mainly me, because i`m a little bit louder than my hifi.
Listen to Angus`solo that is not played by me.
It is compared to my guitar a little too low.
I know it`s not easy to hear a difference, because my sound is very close to Angus`livesound so it sounds very similar.

I was expecting you to jump in front of the camera anytime ๐

Posted at 21:52h, 02 Januaryhahaha, yes sometimes during this song i felt so (-: Next time…..

Posted at 19:51h, 02 JanuaryGreat dude !
The sound is a bit “boxy”, don’t know how to describe it, but I played the Class 5 a lot and I found that its just the way it naturally sounds, I also couldn’t change it.
You should try and put a own solo in there, HtH allows you to freak out a bit ๐
Angusrocks
Posted at 19:59h, 02 Januarythank you, yes, maybe someday i put a solo in there (-; The solo has to be in A, right ?
HagusYoung
Posted at 22:39h, 02 JanuaryI really don’t care about solo Keys so much, a cool lick is a cool lick no matter what key, if it fits it fits :D.
but this solo is played in A yes. try some chuck berry style licks, you will find them all over angus’ solos.

Posted at 19:22h, 02 JanuaryWow, I like it, to be honest It was no difference beetween you and Angus. You nailed it !!! ๐

Posted at 19:16h, 02 JanuaryNice playing ๐
Did the Harley Benton box came with the vintage 30s in it or did you built them in yourself?
Angusrocks
Posted at 19:31h, 02 Januaryno, it came with the vintage 30s in it.
Thanx..(-:
banane
Posted at 19:37h, 02 JanuaryHm, thats nice…I’ll have a look if they have a 1960B clone there…
And maybe I’ll record a video too this week. Would be only some riffs because I can’t play a full song yet ๐
Angusrocks
Posted at 19:47h, 02 JanuaryYes, have a look. Maybe they have a good box for you. Someday i looked into that box and i was amazed how good it was made for the price of 198 EU. There is no real difference compared with a marshall box.
Yes, try to record. It was a lot of fun to me, but also a long time to find the right place for the digicam and adjusting the volume between my hifi and my amp. My amp was mostly too loud (-:
banane
Posted at 19:58h, 02 JanuaryHm, unfortunately no cabinet with basketweave cloth there…but doesn’t matter, I’ll get 4 greenbacks for my 1960A then…
Hehe, I know that hifi/amp volume problem. Most time I’m ending with being way too loud as I put the volume at the hifi up, then turning the amp louder, then the hifi again and so on ๐
Angusrocks
Posted at 22:07h, 02 Januaryoh yes, i know that.
Did i turn the volume of the amp just a little bit too loud, i could not hear the singing on the recording. I believe this was recording No. 10 or so.
And then finally…..
banane
Posted at 22:54h, 02 JanuaryYeah, same here. Most time the amp is too loud and I’m getting out of rhythm then.
I played around a bit with video recording, actually I have either to record with a web cam in my laptop that drops frames, so audio is out of sync, or I have to record with a small digi cam like you while one computer plays the backing track and the other does the mic recording. That’s a hassle too. But maybe I’ll have luck and manage to get a proper recording this week.

Posted at 18:53h, 02 JanuaryHey loved it! what’s your gear, is it a class 5 with a 1936 cab?
Angusrocks
Posted at 18:59h, 02 Januaryfine, thank you (-:
Yes, it is a class5 and a Harley Benton box from a german musicstore called Thomann. It is loaded with two Celestion Vintage 30ies.

Posted at 18:42h, 02 JanuaryHello guys,
this afternoon i recorded myself playing along an ACDC liveperformance. I recorded it with a digicam, because i have no other possibilities to record. You can`t see myself, because iยดm behind the camera.
With all the best wishes for 2011 !!
Enjoy…..
