Mr. Ken Schaffer responds to solodallas

19 May Mr. Ken Schaffer responds to solodallas

Update:

Mr. Schaffer decided to reply directly via email.

Found his email this morning, upon waking up. Useless to try and describe what he told me and what I feel.

Let’s just say that he is willing to help me.

For now, an exclusive present of his to us: the original sticker that was affixed on each receiver of the original SVDS unit. You can barely see a round circle in pictures of the original SVDS, on the left side of the receiver looking at it from the front.

Well,

I am breaking “radio silence” (ain’t it a great pun?) right now.

Mr. Ken Schaffer in person replied last night to an email of mine sent a while ago. Naturally, I had no realistic hopes of any of this.

Instead, Mr. Ken Schaffer says:

INMAIL: ACCEPTED

Ken Schaffer has accepted your request.

Email: xxxxxxxx

Telephone: xxxxxx

Title: Schaffer Vega Diversity

Hi Fil,

Was delightfully surprised… great stuff. I’ll be happy to answer anything I can remember :)

Still holding a few SVDS systems – transmitters & receivers, though mismatched frequencies – that some museum may want.

Love your stuff….

Imagine me – poor Fil – right now.

By the way:

INMAIL: YOU HAVE A NEW MESSAGE

From: Ken Schaffer

Date: May 16, 2011

Subject RE: Schaffer Vega Diversity

BTW,

The Vega and Cetec Vega stuff was different. I haven’t followed the field for years, though :)

which is kind of expected.

I still do not know in what ways this is different. But I plan of finding out, IF and WHEN Mr. Schaffer will want to help me out.

There is a LOT of stuff I am doing right now about all this. You know that when I am silent… something’s cooking 😀

Love,

yours,

Fil :)

Having had the extreme honor of knowing Kenny (Mr. Schaffer) all my adult life, all I can say is that he falls into that *special* class of human beings known as “loveable geniuses”. [smarter/nicer would be hard to find] …rock on, Kenny!

Mr. Randall – Sir – not only I can only agree to what you say for the little I have had the pleasure to deal with Mr. Schaffer myself but also, it is a honor and great pleasure to know you are here. I warmly welcome you right here and now, and hope to be able to have you here for a long time.
Thanks for joining us! Sincerely Yours, Fil :)

    Wow, that’s really awesome!

Actually, a month ago, I was wondering about this (while reading his linkedin profile – the guy is a genius and tech freak): how cool it would be to contact the inventor himself… BANG! and it’s here!

    Great work, Fil!

Mike, I am not so worried. I think the difference is minimal, really. This, judging by ear. I have gone back to our Vegas a number of times, and every time I learn to set them up a little better (given the song). I think there isn’t much different, really! But we’ll see when he replies 😀

Right now I am liking the TX around 2 o’clock with my JMP 50. I installed a switch so I can go between shared and split cathode. Mr Bray uses one of those and it seems it sounds closer with split. In other words split cathode appeared in Marshalls around 1968. My ’80 JMP 2203 should be in my hands late this week.

This is absolutely great, that Mr. Schaffer want to share his rememberings about his wireless system. I would make a catalogue of questions now and would send it to him.

Nice job Fil, it is really kind of Mr. Schaffer that answered your mails.
Now we have to concentrate in order to ask him specific questions, especially in the construction part..
    – One obvious is a picture of the rear side of vega.
    – Did it have also a +20db boost?

Again I have to say that Fil is making a big progress with hard work.. Excellent.. Now we can dream of touching the real thing

George, I have been wondering for days: did you get your guitar yet? If so, do you like it? Your silence got me worried :)

    Ohhh intriguing….

I wonder if he feels the generosity welling up in his heart to donate a Schaffer Vega to the Solodallas Museum of Rockin’ History….

Its only a question of time and this Forum will call up professionals. There is nothing equal to this for any Band, SD is a pilot project and its going damn good.

Surely this will help Guido too with the replica, the anticipation is killing me!

It will (we hope). Naturally I just called Guido to let him know. He literally said “shivers through arms, goosebumps etc.”.
Well, understandably. We’ll see how Mr. Schaffer can help. Wouldn’t want to bug him too much! 😉

That’s a great finding, Fil. Eventually he will give you one of his SVDS with an autograph on it for your “museum” :)
