12 Feb More Modern Classic Playing (Audio Only, LONG file)
So, fever’s gone.
I’m still down here in Dubai, will stay some more here until the snowing and freezing cold in home Rome, IT, ceases.
Prior to leaving, I had recorded a few files to study the sound of both the Modern and Classic Wizards. These were not supposed to be posted, but I thought you may be interested.
It is somehow boring, these are mere exercises of mine to warm up, be flowing etc.
This is the Modern Classic with a Les Paul, a newer one, one that I really love.
Settings on the amp are my usual settings, presence 0, Bass 5, mids 3-4, treble 5, gain 6 and master 8.
There is some post processing done to this, might get annoying in the end – sorry – but I wanted to play with this. It’s a stereo delay.
Wizard Modern Classic Les Paul
The second file is played with a 1969 SG, way below standard tuning. At some point, my 1965/1958 Les Paul Conversion “The Husk” gets in. Same settings, different guitars, to let you understand how the playing and different guitars act to the amp.
Wizard Modern Classic 1969 SG and The Husk
Edit please note: both takes were played with my beloved Schaffer-Vega Diversity.

Posted at 20:42h, 28 FebruaryHi Fil and Everyone!
I’d like to share one interesting Pro Tools LE and Eleven Rack setting. Tha base is old “Solodallas BIB” Eleven Rack (patch) setting, but i’ve edited severally (because my guitar, pickup etc.).
I used some inserts:
– EQ 37 Band
– Compressor/Lomiter
and – suprise: BF 76 Peek Limiter.
Enjoy!!!
See below the links to download the files:

Posted at 11:44h, 23 FebruaryIt’s the guitar used by Ang in the Ballbreaker Tour (As the “second” axe, for some songs at the end of the gigs), and it was used on te Ballbreaker recording too. But the picture seems to be recent. Probably from de “Black Ice” pre-recording days at Mal’s home… in the Amplitube site they say Malcolm recorded 2 songs of the Black Ice album with Amplitube. Maybe it isn’t true, but here is the proof that he DOES use Amplitube at home for practice or wrtitting… maybe the pic is truly recent and this means he’s recording some demos for the new album?? 😉

Posted at 07:13h, 13 FebruaryYes mate
Aaron
Posted at 04:33h, 13 FebruaryVery pleasant to the ears. I could almost visualize where the solos were going next but at the same time it is not something I could reproduce myself.
Reminds me of clips where you see Angus and/or Malcom just fiddling around. It makes you want to close your eyes and hope it never ends.

Posted at 23:26h, 12 FebruaryFil… If I may ask u… Why do u play in such an low tuning? Which are the advantages of it?
Ryley
Posted at 04:08h, 13 Februaryi’ve had my main guitars tuned down half a step for a couple weeks now just to try something different, and thats all it really is… just different. i wouldn’t say there’s many advantages or disadvantages for that matter, its just a different voicing, a different way to hear things is how i look at it 🙂
dash8311
Posted at 04:23h, 13 FebruaryI have one SG at standard tuning, one at -1 step down, and one 1/2 step down…
When I pick up each guitar, they all have ‘the tone’ to them, as enjoy going between them all. Nice amps help 🙂
Ryley
Posted at 04:34h, 13 Februaryabsolutely agree!
AngusRudd1019
Posted at 01:59h, 14 FebruaryI switched to 1/2 step down tuning about 5 months ago and I can never go back to standard unless I have to and personally, the difference from standard and 1/2 step is that it gives the guitar a lot more blues of a sound.
SoloDallas
Posted at 07:20h, 13 FebruaryFOr variation but mostly when practising, for EASE on my tendons. I still bend and vibrate continuously as you can hear, and for minutes. If I did it with regular tension, I’d be knocked off. Must be very careful, I really am rough on my hand.
Ant
Posted at 12:10h, 13 Februaryinteresting point, rest is just as important as practising!
rjofig
Posted at 17:56h, 13 FebruaryInteresting point indeed; I usually leave the guitar in whatever tuning I left for the previous song I’ve been practicing, but using lower tuning for practicing makes sense.
Fil, curious, do you have some set practice routine, or do you sort of doodle along?
Cheers!
Ant
Posted at 17:59h, 13 Februaryim a full on doodler lol play when ever i can ^^
rjofig
Posted at 19:10h, 13 Februaryme too, but sometimes I feel like my practice could be more structured. The main things I always do are a couple of finger strength/dexterity exercises, simple scales (pentatonic!), and chord transitions. I don’t have a good exercise for bends/vibratos, other than doodling.
Ant
Posted at 13:20h, 14 Februaryi feel the same, time though is such a barrier :(, i get to check the site mainly during work hours n play guitar when gf is at work or watching her soaps lol
my practising consits of a list of backing tracks which i play in order usaly starts with back in black right to for thoese about to rock bit like a live performance realy 😛 45mins to 1hr every few days is my frequency
rjofig
Posted at 16:21h, 14 FebruaryYeah, time is the problem; I rarely use backing tracks, actually most of the time I practice unplugged. It’s the only way I found to practice about an hour total a day (and it’s not continuous).
SoloBakersfield
Posted at 23:12h, 12 FebruaryI love the tone with the SG and the wizard when you played back in black it sounded like you where playing at a stadium 🙂 and it sounds like angus live tone from the previous years (around ballbreaker maybe) I bought a DVD of them playing live in madrid spain its called no bull and you can easily see on stage angus is using the wizard modern classic live. is this with the G12-65s?
LeroyKincaid
Posted at 05:14h, 13 FebruaryNo that is Malcolm’s amp with Vintage 30’s.
SoloBakersfield
Posted at 06:18h, 13 FebruaryI meant in the audio is Fil using the G12-65s

Posted at 21:32h, 12 FebruaryHi Fil! Sounds great – SVDS here as well?

Posted at 19:40h, 14 FebruaryI see you’ve edited your original post – thanks for that Fil!
Tyler
Posted at 18:42h, 12 FebruaryWow, really sounds “godly”! Thats a hell of a sound!
06AngusSG
Posted at 18:07h, 12 FebruaryI like those both. Not boring at all. I like the delay/reverb. In the right setting it gives a feeling of distance and fullness. To me these sound a little VanHalen’ish as well. The Wizards seem to e pretty versatile.
Glad you’re over the Flu 🙂 It’s been running through my house to. Of course we can’t all just get it and be done. It’s got to pick us off 1 by 1 so it lasts longer. 🙁
Johnny
Posted at 17:14h, 12 Februarysounds sweet fil 🙂
RiffRaff
Posted at 16:00h, 12 FebruaryNice. But it sounds more dirty than you usually do. And you added pretty much reverb too?
