22 Jun Just for Fun: Rock’n Roll ain’t noise pollution!?
Hello Guys,
just for a little laugh: Today, I found this on the bulletin board of our appartment house. English translation is below:
English translation:
Dear Sir or Madam!
Due to complaints regarding hours and hours of making music in an overdimensional level of loudness we would like to1 bring some poins of the house rules to your attention:
Point 12):
Sleep-and siesta times: Between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. it’s not allowed to disrupt the night rest time, between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m. it’s not allowed to disrupe the siesta time.
Operating Radios, TVs or HiFis and making music must be done at room loudness level.
Point 13):
Noise pollutions: In the appartments and in the stairways every extraordinary noise pollutions must be avoided. Especially consider tenants with small childs or night workers.
In the sense of a good neighborhood, we ask you to consider the above points.
Kind regards,
xxx
Guys, did you read this? “Overdimensional level of loudness”! Feeling sort of proud now. And, well, I adjusted my Attenuator again.
Cheers,
Franz

Posted at 01:11h, 08 JulyHaha you know, I usually keep my amp at full volume (A marshall Half stack, JCM 900) and no ones complained yet!
banane
Posted at 08:52h, 08 JulyMaybe you just overheard the complaints π

Posted at 01:01h, 01 JulyMuch better than a neighbor stomping his foot!
:p
banane
Posted at 08:03h, 01 JulyHehe, well, yes and no. At least you know who complained, I dont. Everyone is nice and smiles when you meet them and behind your back they complain about you being too loud. Don’t like this. But well, I wrote an own note on the bulletin board that I am the one who makes the noise and complains should go directly to me. But nobody rang the doorbell yet π

Posted at 21:41h, 26 Junenow thats a proper rockers memorablia. Could be usable in auditions for bands even who knows?v:)

Posted at 00:42h, 24 JuneFranz, youre such a beast π
I had the same problem playing in a college dorm room, I pissed a lot of people off!
banane
Posted at 12:24h, 24 JuneYeah, happened to me several times back then. Changed the dorm three times because of that and luckily I was done before they wanted to kick me out for the fourth time π

Posted at 14:29h, 23 JuneI live in a house with a garden, but my neighbours are still complaining sometimes. But I only have a PPIMV in my amp… however, it’s still able to bring the amp down to bedroom levels, but it totally messes up the sound at those levels. So I usually set it to a point where the tone is not getting away. And that’s pretty loud π
banane
Posted at 17:07h, 23 JuneYeah, similar here. I got quite good results with my attenuator, but its just not the same as playing loud. Well, I guess thats our destiny π
adam10603
Posted at 22:51h, 23 JuneYeah, I feel the same… maybe you can turn an amp down to talking level, and still get the same tone, but you lose the FEEL π It needs to be loud, to get that real feeling. I’m not talking about insane 100W loudness, but somewhere between that, and the bedroom level. At this level the tone is untouched, and you also got the feel π Because it’s still pretty loud
banane
Posted at 23:07h, 23 JuneYes, exactly…you need to feel it, at least a little bit. Without that, there’s missing something.
adam10603
Posted at 00:21h, 24 Juneyeah. And poor neighbours just don’t understand this π
Devil'Fingers"
Posted at 12:15h, 23 JuneSpray on the wall of the building big inscription
“Rockk and roll aint noise pollution” or ” let there be rock you…”.
Or go to some autorithies and start with:
“regarding to rock and roll band ac/dc rock and roll aint noise pollution … “

Posted at 17:10h, 23 JuneHehe, I thought even of making a “personal concert” for the one who complained, at full volume in front of his door π

Posted at 11:59h, 23 JuneOh oh Franz Franz, what did you do friend π
That`s the reason why i have a 2x12th box, because a 4 x 12th is unbelievable loud !
But tonewise is a 4 x12th box the best thing you can have π
I have an own house and my gear is in the cellerbar, but over this cellerbar is living my old mother so i can`t play very loud either.
If i had the money i would build a little studio in my garden, because there is a lot of space, but i will see later……
Yes, saaad that they can`t talk with you from person to person, very poor !!
banane
Posted at 17:14h, 23 JuneYeah, I’ll try switching my cab to stereo, then only 2 of 4 speakers will run. Lets see how this will turn out.
Well, at least it’s your own house. Why not make some noise isolation in the basement?
Yeah, I would also prefer the face to face talk. Just saying “Mate, you’re just too loud” isnt that difficult…
Angusrocks
Posted at 18:57h, 23 Juneno, that should not be too difficult, absolutely not ! Feige feige Menschen, naja, die gibts ΓΌberall, leider.
Noise isolation is good, but my cellerbar is not very high and if i would isolate the walls i had to go with my head down all the time π
Unfortunalety i am 1,89m tall.
banane
Posted at 07:45h, 24 JuneAh, I see. I would isolate the walls if its our flat, so I have peace then, but we just rented it. Well, yeah, building up a little studio from ground on would be a lot of work and costs a lot of money. However, at least you have the place for it, thats already good π
Angusrocks
Posted at 11:21h, 24 Juneyes, that`s right, the space is there, i will see, maybe one day….
You know what, i`m looking forward to meet us togheter with Fil, that will be a happy time !!
banane
Posted at 12:18h, 24 JuneWell, I’m also thinking about renting a rehearsal room, but dont want to spend the money for this…
Yeah, that come together will be fun. Though I’m a bit nervous about playing in front of so many good players π
Angusrocks
Posted at 14:41h, 24 Juneaaah, that doesn`t matter, the most important thing is togheterness then, and, of course, the sound, at least, just having fun.
This absolutely stupid, i `m better than you, no i`m better than you, i am the best of us all……this is really childish, isn`t it !?
banane
Posted at 16:19h, 24 JuneYeah well, its more the feeling of still being a bloody beginner next to the pro’s…but nonetheless, we will have a lot of fun π
Angusrocks
Posted at 11:46h, 26 June…….and that`s the most important thing !

Posted at 13:23h, 29 Junelower the ground to give more hight π
banane
Posted at 13:38h, 29 JuneHey Ant, long time no see π Hehe, but what would the neighbors say when they see him digging in the basement? π

Posted at 11:23h, 23 JuneGreat Franz!! It happened also 3-4 times to me that someone rings my doorbell and said something of being to noisy … didn’t understand that lol
–> “my neighbors have no idea who was Jim Marshall, but they hate him!” xD
Greetings Franz! Well done!!
banane
Posted at 11:27h, 23 JuneHehehe, yeah, thats probably what my neighbors think too! And yes, don’t understand that either…Danke, Felix! π

Posted at 03:53h, 23 JuneYour article heading says it all!!!!!
Just start blaring that song over the radio!!! π
Maybe they’ll get the point β
Congrats on the complaint though. No guitar player, especially an AC/DC player, should be w/o one. 8)
banane
Posted at 10:03h, 23 JuneHehehe, yeah, I should play that song over the fully cranked Marshall, on Sunday morning π
You brought an idea up, Jon. Will pick up the notice from the bulletin board, put it in a picture frame and hang it on the wall over my amp π

Posted at 02:41h, 24 JuneYou’re lucky you get a keepsake for it!!!! My complaint cane last summer. Me and the guys were playing in my garage and got a “nice” visit by the police because of a neighabor that couldn’t ask us to turn down on their own. π
rjofig
Posted at 04:05h, 24 JuneWow… I hope the police fined whoever called them… spend taxpayer’s money because they are too lazy to walk and ask?? π
banane
Posted at 07:46h, 24 JuneYeah, I hope that too. And hopefully you didnt get fined, Jon?
Thundersnook
Posted at 11:24h, 23 JuneFuck yeah! That is a great idea!! xD I love it! π
banane
Posted at 11:27h, 23 JuneYeah, me too, will do that! π

Posted at 02:41h, 23 JuneGo loud or nothing, thats marshall law!
I had neighbors once on a different street than I live tell me that they have heard me playing
banane
Posted at 10:01h, 23 JuneYeah, similar thing for me. Last Monday or so my daughter could hear me playing down on the street as she went back home from the school. While I was on the 5th floor and on the other side of the house π
It’s unbelieveable what a single 4×12″ cab can do, loudness-wise. And I play with an attenuator, with amp volume around 4 and the attenuator also half open. But yesterday I made some tests and found that all closed doors in our flat vibrate when I play, even on the walls 2 rooms away you can still feel it. Probably bad construction/noise isolation.

Posted at 01:05h, 23 JuneFranz, a freak accident of nature and your guitar and amp together have become uberdimensionaler. Your playing was heard in parallel universes. This is a message from them. You have made contact π
banane
Posted at 09:53h, 23 JuneHehehe yeah, we dont need SETI anymore, just crank up our amps and they will come! π
Kirk2000
Posted at 00:27h, 23 JuneFranz, without a calibrated decibel meter, tell them to pound salt.. The volume you use is room level, your room level, tee hee.. Everyone has their own level of loud, yours is just different. And they couldn’t identify themselves, what’s up with that?.. Was that notice directed at you? Soon there will be an angry mob with torches and pitchforks knocking down your door for playing your music to loud, then they will drag you into the woods and torch your guitar and amp.. KIRK
banane
Posted at 09:52h, 23 JuneHehe, no, it wasnt directed at me. Thats a funny behaviour in our house here. When there are conflicts, almost everyone writes the house administration and they put a note on the bulletin board, directed to everyone in the house. I dont like this. Everone is nice when you meet up in the elevator, but could be that it was him or her who wrote the complains.
My neighbors from above like my playing and I ask them to tell me if I ever play too loud and they agree. So I dont even know who complained.
Well, some days ago my wife went out accidentially in the 4th floor instead of the 5th where our flat is, and could me clearly hear playing, loud and poweful. The other day my daughter came home from school and heard me playing down on the street while out living room where I play is on the other side of the house. So “my personal room level” was probably really loud, hehehe π
But there will never be an angry mob due to this strange behaviour of not even talking about problems.
SGACE
Posted at 23:38h, 22 JuneThe funny is that they spent time to write all this instead of knock your door and
1 case: Politely ask you to play in lower levels
2 case: Start Shouting
3 case: See a lawyer at the front of your door smiling.
banane
Posted at 23:53h, 22 JuneYeah, I also don’t understand this. I dont even know who complained. Really strange behaviour.
banane
Posted at 22:06h, 22 JuneMust still laugh when I read this. However, on a higher attenuation level the sound is not that good yet.
