Renato @ Florida; I bought and started learning to play guitar about two years ago, a bit late in life (I am 39). Still a beginner, but motivated and inspired by Fil and other 'bedroom rockers'. I've been posting a few videos here and sound bites on soundcloud, as sort of a logbook with snippets of how my playing (hopefully) evolves, and it may help inspire others who love music to take an instrument, practice, play, and have fun. To contact me by email, my gmail.com username is the same as my username here.

try only holding your pick with your thumb and index finger and let the other finger loose like Fil does in his vids that helps me to relax πŸ™‚

Will comment again once iv seen it ^^

Hey, Ant, that’s a pretty good observation, even without looking at the video – probably what Rob and Ryley noticed but you pinpointed it πŸ™‚ I’ll give that a try. Thanks!

Yes, indeed, good idea. Also, try playing while standing, I have great fun with it πŸ™‚

Got to figure out what would be a good counter-weight to hang on the body of my Epi πŸ™‚

Maybe a good leather strap will help too. The cheaper ones tend always to slip here.

im impressed! great improvment πŸ™‚ you got good timing and Mal tone there too! ^^

i noticed your wrist is very stiff too almost like a robot arm lol, get that hand loose and flick with the wrist you should be able to palm mute better with the open fingers too. takes a bit of getting used to but it come naturaly its totaly worth it πŸ™‚

Point well taken, this is something to practice, thanks for the feedback πŸ™‚ I tried a bit opening the fingers last time I practiced, and yes, it will take a bit of getting used to πŸ™‚ but I can see the palm mute benefits there. cheers!

Thanks, Rob – been out traveling for a couple weeks, finally got some time to play this weekend, I’m glad the calluses didn’t go away πŸ™‚ as I have some more traveling soon (including a few days in the UK!)
It’s a goal to loosen up more when playing, let’s see how I get there πŸ™‚
      Cheers!

Hehe yes thats always the problem with traveling, I have been away quite a bit this year myself. I miss playing when I’m away from the guitar. I always worry I’ll forget everything, my hands will lose their strength and i’ll have to start again. Takes a few days sometimes but it soon comes back. πŸ™‚

Yeah; there’s a business opportunity hotels should pick up on, have a couple of acoustic guitars available for guests to check out, play and relax. Would be a nice differentiator, I’d definitely choose the one that offers guitar over the one that offers a gym πŸ™‚

Gym, what’s that ? πŸ˜‰ actually when I was in my 20’s I used to spend all my spare time in one, What a waste of time that was. Should have picked up a guitar instead.

Hehe you are right, I got the same impression when I saw the video, thpugh I think I was a bit more relaxed than it looks πŸ™‚ There’s defibitely room to loosen up, especially when I’m recording a video, sometimes I catch myself clenching my jaw, not a sign of relaxation πŸ™‚
      Cheers!
