Franz, Fil & The Schaffer-Vega Diversity News

03 Mar Franz, Fil & The Schaffer-Vega Diversity News

Sounds like the name of a band, really (Huey Lewis & The news, for example) but no, not really.

Listen to (and watch) this, and rejoyce, you people of the Schaffer-Vega Diversity Union!

Some updates and Goodies inside.

Love,

Franz & Fil (i.e., your SoloDallas.com Staff)

Technical note. the Marshall 1959 used here had the following settings:

Presence: 0

Bass: 6

Mids: 4-5

Treble: 6

Volume: 7

That is, typical Angus Young settings.

The attenuator was still used, but less i.e., the amplifier loudness was definitely higher, finally breaking up a bit more the speakers (Speakers used were original 1979 G12-65s).

Microphones used were one vintage Neumann U67 and one vintage Neumann U87. L

A little reverb was added in post, as well as very mild equalization (some very mild mid-scooping on HMF and LMF, nothing else).

The guitar is a 1969 Gibson SG Custom, with a new, Angus Young signature bridge humbucker.

NO whatsoever gate was used. Nothing. What comes through the microphones is what you hear. Basically, no hiss on this unit.Β

Out of the three, working SVDS units we have, this is definitely the best sounding one, in terms of almost not audible hiss. Almost not there! What you hear is what it is.Β

What are the differences (in the sound) between the retro output and the front output of the EX63 receiver?

Retro? the rear output? The front output can be boosted much more. But has also more hiss.
Is it you who buyed the pro 58 system?

Hey guys, I have an ART project series preamp here, and I’m not sure how to get it setup with the guitar and amp. Can anyone help me with this signal flow dilemma? Help would be very much appreciated.

What do you think the hiss is down to on your SVDS’s?

could be the power pack they use or grounding issues

will the 2nd version (stomp box) will that be optional battery operated?

Hiss is mainly fixed as far as I know. A bit of hiss is usual anyway.

The stomp box will need a power supply very likely, due to the high power consupmtion of the compressor/boost combination.

For example, a 9V battery in the SVDS transmitter lasts for about 8 hours of playing: Of course the Replica don’t send/receive radio, so this don’t consume any power, but since it’s basically 3 single pedals in one, a bettery won’t last long.

      Thank you, mate! πŸ™‚
Yes, it’s getting further, slowly, but continuous. It’s unbelieveable what you have to care about when building such a device.

Hey Fil, do you think placing a hum eliminator such as the MXR Smart Gate Noise Gate (which also eliminates hiss, for example) between the SVDS and amp would effectively reduce the hiss from the SVDS? Or, maybe the pedal could be placed between the amp/attenuator and the cab?

I think it would definitely work with the original SVDS (for me, that is) but the replica likely won’t need it, as hiss will be highly reduced (and NO FM transmission naturally). Let’s wait and see, we’re awaiting for the new prototypes in a few days. Will keep you updated πŸ™‚

Will the ”Black Vega” also work on typhical bass amps made by Marshall such as the Super Bass amps?

It will work on ANY amp of any kind, including a radio amp!
It will work on anything than can amplify a guitar or a microphone, really. YES.

that sound remind me the concert ,” rocks to college” (I forget the correct title) , really it’s right the same !
probably without attenuator and volume at 8 and try to take a trackrec on the original sound… it’s going to be hard know who is who A or F πŸ˜‰

Looking forward to getting my hands on one. Fil, you should try to get one of these to Angus himself. Perhaps you could send one to Rick St. Pierre to pass along to him. You never know but Angus may like it enough to endorse it and use it. The first Angus Young endorsed boost. You never know. I do think that your members should get a signed certificate or something from you. Like the first run of 100 units be personally signed by you. Just a couple ideas. Keep up the good work friend!
