07 Oct Powerage Era: AC/DC’s “Gimme A Bullet” (with SoloDallas Solo)

NOW I’m starting to have fun.

This video is the second one of the “debunking” series with the Schaffer-Vega Diversity.

As with the previous one, “Back in Black”, I intend to cover quite a few songs with the exact same equipment they used back then, or the closest approximation I have available.

I used the Schaffer-Vega here only on the solo  – which is my own thingnote – as I believe was on most albums since 1978 onward. I love the SVDS: did you know? (more…)

30 Sep The Definitive “Back in Black” featuring an original Schaffer-Vega Diversity System (UPDATED!)

BREAKING NEWS!

Well, I was talking over the phone with my long time Italian-Canadian friend “Max” (he’s a member here too). Max has lived for decades with a 1959 replacing his own heart. (more…)

15 Sep Playing “Clean” An Original Schaffer Vega Diversity at Borghesani’s/Cloe Guitars

It’s a little, foolish video we did the other day at the Lab.

I had heard suddenly  Daniel’s (the singer)  voice (he was silently and diligently working to some amp internals and at some point he went “Oh Ba-by!”) and I thought to myself “Woah there. Good singer”.

So I asked him to do a little blues jingle for 2 minutes.

I took the chance to play my Schaffer Vega with it.

Guitar is latest Luca’s (Cloe Guitars) 1959 Replica done to exacting specs. Great guitar.

Enjoy?

01 Jun AC/DC’s “You Shook Me All Night Long” “VEGA” Series

Well my friends, it’s night here and I have prepared all day long for our departure tomorrow to go “back to the States”.

We’ll be in San Diego, CA, for a month. The 4 of us.

Didn’t want to have you hanging for nothing though. So I did this.

Latest effort in replicating “Back in Black” sound. Using a newly acquired Neumann U67 and all the Universal Audio plug-ins you see in the image. Carefully crafted.

Will update this post with more info. For now, you get the video.

Love,

Fil 🙂

23 Jan AC/DC’s “Back In Black” (Studio) New Series

Well, how could this one miss from the lot of the New Series? It couldn’t, is your sincere answer [sarcasm].

So I did it for you. And for me. And probably it won’t be the last time either. No secret, this is my number one, favorite song of all times across any musical genre. This is it, it’s the one that rings my bells.

22 Jan AC/DC “Shot Down In Flames” (Live)

sdif720 from SoloDallas on Vimeo.

This is one of the two new videos I have been working on silently during these days (when you don’t hear from me, I’m either away, or working too hard on business or studying new content for SoloDallas.net!).
I have been trying to capture studio tone and the usual performance feeling.
Also, I think I am understanding better and better micing (i.e., the positioning of the microphones), equalizing, recording and mixing in general. It’s. Lot of work, but it is neessary. I am leaning towards thinking that amplifier settings, guitar settings, micing, equalizing and mixing all work together almost seamlessly to get you the tone you have in mind. Naturally, the playing is always the most important component, but the tone… is not in the hands (or not only in the hands). I mean at least, for that whole part that we consider as those tonal characteristics that are contained in the guitar type, amplifier and cabinet types, microphone type and its posotioning, equalization, mixing etc.
There is a lot of components, as you can see and hopefully, hear. (more…)

13 Jan AC/DC’s “Let There Be Rock” (earlier video series)

So, thanks to member GoingDownOnTheWay, I was able to get this video back. I don’t know how to thank you for this.

It’s nothing great, but I really had had a blast with this one. Played on a 1971 SG Standard and Guitar Rig 4.1
