13 Oct Back in Black Song Attempts
2nd Attempt (replayed everything with mike up close, equalization, mastering… exceeded on the mastering, now sounds huge; wrong, sigh…) ๐
Okay, so the Audio Technica AT4707 microphone arrived this morning (one of two). Seems like an amazing microphone.
Now, here goes my FIRST attempt. PLEASE do NOT expect it to sound like IT just yet. I’ve just begun this morning to mess with it all.
Equalization is not right; a lot of work needs to be done still. I did both equalization AND mastering. The possibilites are… untold and immense, neverending. My feeling is that it is now possible to do it very, very well.
However, it is a first result.
Love,
Fil ๐

Posted at 00:32h, 16 OctoberReally great work! The 2nd attempt is much better and it sounds really close to the original, but to my ears there’s too big echo (I hope I described it properly).

Posted at 23:51h, 14 OctoberFil, if you would succeed to nail it at 100% on every detail, every single one, the exact tone, all bends and everything exactly like on record, you MUST send a copy and show it to Angus or anyone in AC/DC , or someone with connections to them who can show them, and then try to ask him(Angus); ”did you do it like this?” if at all possible.
I am sure that he would be impressed in such a case ๐

Posted at 09:19h, 15 OctoberHeh… and how would I contact him? In all these years, I never tried. I never had anyone tell me. So, I don’t think it’ll happen. Also, I am not sure he’d like the result. Or like me getting closer to them. You never know… I hope he understands how much appreciation for them there is from me; but I can never be sure. I think that I would be more than happy already if WE as a community were happy with our own attempts, results and trials. This would be already a big goal ๐

Posted at 04:35h, 14 OctoberYeah the 2nd audio on this page sounds much closer compare to first at the top as the first doesn’t seem bright or enough treble but 2nd is a lot closer.

Posted at 01:26h, 14 OctoberI’m watching a TV show documenting Carlos Santana and the making of an album he recently made, Guitar Heaven. Santana took a bunch a classic rock songs and re-recorded them with today’s popular artists. One of the songs featured on the album is Back In Black and the guest artist’s name is, Nas. Apparently Nas doesn’t sing but raps on the track. I’ve heard bits and pieces of the song, and I think it’s just as bad as the Thunderstruck remix that was floating around recently. I don’t mean to take the flame away from Fil’s forum here, I just wanted to write this down while it was on my mind and see what fellow fans think about this.

Posted at 14:52h, 14 OctoberI work at Target, and when I saw the Santana CD on our shelves, I thought I would look it up. I doesnt really even sound like Back In Black. I totally respect Santana, and he’s a fantastic guitarist, but I feel like no one can really do AC/DC justice, especially if you have a rapper sing.

Didn’t like it either; I’m eclectic when it comes to music, but I think covers of great songs, especially crossing over genres, are really hard to get right – the bar is so high.
Exception: Johnny Cash

Posted at 23:27h, 13 OctoberGreat! As you say, the EQ needs some work, but your new marshall head seems like to be RIGHT THERE. Your amp sounds soooo BiB-ish, you just need to record and master it correctly. I can’t wait to hear a better version ๐ I’m sure you will nail that tone. This amp sounds soo amazing. ๐ soo… BiB-ish!
