12 Aug Angus Young Signature (#37 of 50, VOS, Aged And Played By Angus Young)

I would re-buy this guitar 100 times if I had to.

I know I always talk about how older guitars usually sound good, or better. Not the case with this one.

At times and for some things, this beats most of the others.

This article will be done in much deeper detail.

Here’s a photo (courtesy of someone) of all of them 50 Aged and Played by Angus himself. Mine is there, somewhere ๐Ÿ˜€ (note: I think Angus played each one for about 3-5 seconds. More of a marketing statement, Yes Sir. Still, the moment the guitar came in with its strings on – a set of 10s instead of 09s, for some reason – I removed those strings, without playing them, and stored them away. [sarcasm ON] Therefore, I own some of Angus DNA on those strings. I feel SO proud… [sarcasm OFF] )

    Hi Fil!
I wonder, the signature SG has got a EBONY fretboard because JayDee used it to repair Angus his fav guitar. But, why did JayDee used ebony, cause Angus always played ROSEWOOD.
Can you explain JayDee’s choice and why Angus liked it?
I’m thinking to buy a regular dark cherry/walnut SG, replace the whammy bar with a stoptail and let my music store make a rosewood fretboard with bolts. Only because of the, to me, unusual ebony fretboard.

Ebony is a much better tone wood for fingerboards.

Yeah never played of these myself and as much as it seems like an awesome guitar and would love to have one unless your rich and don’t care about spending money then your better off to buy a real vintage late 60 early 70 SG as you can find them a lot cheaper then what people are reselling these for and they probably sound better if there original parts. but still this is a awesome looking guitar ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hello,
I would love to know what exact strings have these aged and signed SG come with…
Also, did the VOS (not aged and signed) come with the same strings ?
    Thanks for all.

10 gauge Gibson strings… but at this point if you get one with the original strings, thats not good lol. you’ll end up changing the strings eventually.

Hey, thanks for your quick answer ๐Ÿ™‚
I am actually looking for the exact string reference.
Are those the “Vintage Reissue” ?

not sure man lol, they don’t really tell you. But i’m telling you man, it doesn’t really matter! If you want to get close to angus, put Ernie Ball 9’s on there!

As you probably already know, it seemed Angus used .008s in the Mark Evans era. Still only one person knows when Angus changed to .009s: The man himself!

This is what’s stated on the website: Strings
          Gauge
The Angus Young SG is fitted with genuine Gibson strings, sizes .010 – .046.

But as Ryley said, Angus is not using Gibson strings, actually I know very few people using Gibson strings. Most use D’addario and Ernie Ball ๐Ÿ™‚

BTW, those Aged and Signed SGs do not pop up for sale really “often”, right ?… have you guys seen a few amongst 50 for sale those last 2 years ? (except Laust – see below) ?

                  I have, 3 aged and 1 VOS
All the aged went for over 9 K โ‚ฌ and the VOS for 6 K โ‚ฌ.
Overpriced imo. It’s a great guitar, I have one, even an excellent one, but no guitar is worth 6K โ‚ฌ …

                      I have one VOS ๐Ÿ™‚
I LOVE Angus and AC/DC, but I’m not THAT sick though haha ๐Ÿ˜›

ok, so the +/- 9Kโ‚ฌ sold SGs, where aged only, not signed, right ?
I am curious about that because I have seen the Les Paul Page and Gibbons going for such mad prices !!
