AC/DC’s “Let There Be Rock” (earlier video series)

13 Jan AC/DC’s “Let There Be Rock” (earlier video series)

So, thanks to member GoingDownOnTheWay, I was able to get this video back. I don’t know how to thank you for this.

It’s nothing great, but I really had had a blast with this one. Played on a 1971 SG Standard and Guitar Rig 4.1

AC DC s Let There Be Rock GuitarLess Version Studio SoloDallas from SoloDallas on Vimeo.

Fil, today I was looking for your (old) new series cover of for those about to rock, I remember you uploaded it to youtube with the let there be rock, but I think you haven’t uploaded it here yet! Could you? I was thinking of transcribing the song, and the cover would be very helpful (also I think it is worth having that cover here). Oh and by the way, I propose you a cover! Let there be rock, the live version with the extended solo of you improvising, what do you think?

I love many songs made by AC/DC, and this is in the top 10 :)

I remember a while ago me and my friend was jamming in a small room where he plays and record CDs with his band in, and i remember we couldn’t come up with anything , i don’t know but we were clueless as what we were gonna play, so i suggested Let There Be Rock.

So i show’d him the basic rythm parts about it, and we two manned it! Really when we were getting the feeling for it after the first solo part we were like ”Keep going keep going this is magic!” πŸ˜€

Then when the song had ended both we were so full of sweat and into that ”Grinface”-attitude-state we were kinda disappointed the clock was so much, so we had to go…

We didn’t have a drummer or bas player or anything, just some marshall stacks, me, our guitars and my friend trying to keep the rythm with both his guitar and drums, i don’t know how he managed to make it but he simply did it, we were doing rythm parts both , just to make it work out (somehow at least lol), it was simply so fun at the end, i hate that i didn’t think about trying to record it though, performance might have not been very accurate but it was fun and i think that’s what counts :)

I remember this cover, it’s very good even though it got some years on it’s back :)

Isnt this pretty close to LTBR tone? http://soundcloud.com/adam136/crabs-2 sry for the bad timing (latency problem) and crappy improvised lick in the end.

Its just a sm57. No eq or anything. Volume is about 6 and preamp 5 Β½.

Loved this video, you looked knackered at the end lol must be all that strumming at the end solo XD

How do you hold that pick when you strum towards the end, i have attempted several different positions but cant seem to get the nack :( either the pick comes out of my hand or my fingers start to acre πŸ˜€

You mean the slide down thing? Put it perpendicular to the strings and slide down. Make sure you touch the string properly for maximum effect :)

Just the struming lol my left hand is ok got that down fine it just my right hand i can focus in on the 2 stings needed but the pick tends to travel or my arm/hand dies on me XD.

Do you hold the pick so just the tip pokes out past the thumb or just hold it when you do a chord?

        thanks for your wisdom πŸ˜€

    Hello Fil!
    Nice performance as usual!
BTW, if you have the “old” “Trying out a 1967 Gibson SG Std.”, Comparing a 1968…, 1950’s Black Les Paul, etc sorry I can’t exactly remember the titles, so if you have these, could you re-upload them? These were my favourites, but unfortunately I have formatted them recently :(
    Thanks!

    Always liked that video πŸ˜€

It was so easy to learn from this (one reason for downloads), though I have not managed to play Let There Be Rock as good as you do, same for every other song. I wish I’d become half as good someday.

I still have at least four more high definition videos of that period that I think you have not uploaded.

    Gibson SG Standard Overview
    Back In Black (live)
For Those About To Rock (live)
Rock ‘n Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution (Studio)

At that point of time I was already aware that youtube may block channels because of copyright, which of course is stupid.

So I started playing and recording. But didn’t achieve anything (happens often). I guess I shall shoot a good tutorial or two then πŸ˜‰

Is there any article on the site featuring this guitar? It looks really nice! :)
btw, I have a question for you Fil: Do you have any SGs right now that you feel like it’s pickups are not the best? Like when you had a VOS SG and you put the Angus Young pickup in it. Is there any guitar of yours right now that needs a pickup replacement?
If so, I would suggest something for you: bare knuckle pickups! :) They are hand wound in the UK, built from vintage-correct materials, and they do sound amazing! πŸ˜‰ There’s a model they have, it’s called riff raff (that’s right, just like the song πŸ˜€ ). They say it’s voiced especially for the SG, giving you that classic vintage Gibson tone. They sound great! I’m planning to get a pair for my SG too.
If you have a guitar that you think it needs a pickup replacement, you must check out bare knuckle. trust me πŸ˜‰

Fil, about Guitar Rig 4 – I’ve seen lots of posts/interest (myself included) in exchanging GR4 (perhaps other amp modeler) setups. Have you thought about having a page here that could help bootstrap a database of amp modeler setups from the members? Might be as simple as something like the e-bay watch post.

Any suggestions of an easy to use, free, reliable, file hosting web site? These would be relatively small files I think.

Alright. I’ll prepare 20 GBytes of webspace with a webinterface for the uploads so we can upload the files in a comfortable way via web browser. Could be extended later if needed.
Uploads would be password protected, password will be published here. Downloads are free.
              Would this be ok, Fil?
And if you would like this webspace having a solodallas.net subdomain url, for example, fileexchange.solodallas.net or whatever, you could enter 78.47.14.160 (thats my server) as a subdomain in the DNS settings for solodallas.net.
I would configure the webserver accordingly. Just tell me the subdomain name you want to have.

Can be implemented but will require a more complex document management system then.
But as it would be a great improvement, I’m looking around now for a decent software.

Yeah, I think that’d be helpful, if over time there’s a lot of submissions. But, if it’s complex to implement, a simple first step could be to suggest some reasonable naming scheme for files and have people post comments describing the patch with a link to it.

Yes, that was my first thought too. On the other side, there would be a bunch of files somewhere without anyone knowing what it is, without the link. So it’s better to store data and metadata together, you were totally right there.
Well, I installed a small lightweight document management system now. It is, only for testing, online under:
                      http://filespace.exception.at/
                      Login with:

                      This user can upoad/download/delete/add descriptions.

Thats right, I had to search the comment field too. Thats a minus.
Hm, a little article introducing the filespace would be good, yes. If we decide to use this software, I will write one.
I did some more uploads and Andre also helped testing.
So, if Fil agrees too and the DNS settings are done, we could release it for public usage here.
If anyone else wants to try it out, just do so, I’ll keep it running.
