Hey guys, i just purchased a 1970 gibson sg, and i realized that its missing that rhythm treble ring…any ideas as to where i can get one and how much it would cost…i tried ebay but couldnt find a 1970 ring???
try http://www.randysguitars.com/ hes got a lot of vintage parts for a good price. it will probably run you about $50 for an original 1970 but may be more/less,
That sounds amazing Fil! The site looks great don’t worry about the Youtube thing, this is better! I am curious about the material of the tailpieces on these late 60’s SG’s. Are they aluminum or Zinc/steel?
just an observation, you have an incredible nerves face when I think that last thing is you should be nervous, we all know you play wonders, maybe I’m wrong and are reflex actions, each one has its own customs and manias when play.
good luck, and continuing with this project that is giving great results.
Don’t worry: when someone – me in this case – exposes himself, he must be always ready for any observation, and yours is most kind, too.
It’s mostly striving to physically make it. It’s hard for me – especially when playing standing – to get the sound I want, do the vibrato and bends I want and so on. Maybe if I were touring everyday it would get easier and easier and some faces would disappear. Other faces are made because I tend to hear the sound I want in my head first, and then I try to pour it out. Screams, singing, I have all of sorts of things running in my head when I play!
Everyone here comes from different corners of the world and does their best to communicate through english. The ‘faces’ though are understood by all without question!
Keep on with the faces

Thank you. I really meant that: it sounded “dead”. No life, little wood resonance, very stiff fretboard (I HATE stiff fretboards: they make it harder to bend). So I fine tuned it, adjusted the neck via the trussrod, played it a lot during the summer, and now “she” feels better.
That sounds like, oh my god im sh*** my pants, the glory studio sound of the the, i think my pants are totaly full of crap, HIGHWAY TO HELL Album. Fil, i NEED to visit your place and see this Amp π
Well done mate ! I always told myself that the Highway to Hell sound is a result of doublerecording tracks, and you did it with just one Guitar and not even at studio conditions. Im really shoked ! I wonder that nobody recognized what you pulled here.
Well done, if i had a hat i would take it off here !

Hagus
I can’t understand that recording labels won’t give a chance to Phil. What a musician, what a feeling, incredible playing. He gets all my respect too! He’s a model, example for all of us young or older guitar players!
Sooner or later it may happen. But I wonder if I’d accept, with the life I am leading now. Married man, two kids! π And a rewarding job. I’d probably decline. You know instead what I’d love? That this place took off as the main place for classic rock. And making some money to cover cost and get more gear to experiment further. That I would love to happen, and I think I am working hard for that. If it won’t happen, you and I will still have this little corner here on the net where we get to hear/see and talk about classic rock things π
Would you believe it if I told you that I think it’s the guitar? It’s a mint ’69, like if the time had stopped on this one. The only mint guitar I have ever gotten I think. It sounded like shit at first, I had to literally break it in for a few months before it started playing well. I played this one here because I knew that ANgus had recorded HtH with a ’69!
the interesting thing about the record is that its bassy and partly, forgive me angus, muddy but also sqeatchy and bright in the d and g change. funny thing that drives me crazy. i also do believe its the guitar, the amp is just right, does what it should do, but the, i call it colour, of your tone comes from that nasty red thing around your shoulder. i thougt it was a 67 from the cameras point of view, cuts look bigger than what i know as 69s. and yes it looks like you took it out of a time machine, id like to see it π
Wow, that amp sounds sooo sweet, and the combination with that guitar is marvelous :p
I like the sound of a guitar when tuned down (I guess u’re tuned down?). I like the reverb on thisone… Again 10/10, perfect playing…
I experienced already that moving when playing helps a lot to put feeling in your playing. For that I try to move and to have fun when playing guitar. It may look crazy, but it helps !!! π
Merci JL. Well, it does look crazy – look at me! – but it really, really help. Don’t forget that it was George Young telling Angus to move/dance to keep the rhythm tight! I didn’t invent it: someone did before me π
Hey, I have some Pro Tool files from own songs (only guitar tracks, lines)… Songs I made myself… But I can’t export them, don’t know how to make an mp3 off them. I think I have to install something more to be able to do that? Or can I send u those files? I want to let hear them to an expert (like u). π Can I maybe send u those files by email? I wanted to put them on Soundclick, but can’t make an mp3 off them. So it would be an honor for me if u could check those Pro Tools files and tell me your sincere finding off them…
